DESCRIPTION:Join us virtually on April 18 at 11:00 a.m. for information on HUB and certification requirements. Participants will not need to prepare anything before attending. Once the training is complete\, attendees will be prepared to complete the certification process.\n\n\n\nWoman owned and black owned businesses are encouraged to attend this event. In order to be a HUB business\, you must be majority owned by a minority.  \n\n\n\nHistorically Underutilized Business (HUB) is a company level diversity certification that is generally issued by North Carolina to increase the amount of goods and services acquired by that state from HUBs. The program is in place to help businesses that are at least 51% owned by minorities such as Black\, Hispanic\, Asian-American\, American Indian\, Female or a Socially and Economically Disadvantaged person\, Disabled-Owned or a Disabled Business Enterprise gain exposure to state procurement and contracting opportunities.\n\n\n\nHUB certification is non-industry specific and is intended for organizations owned and operated at least 51% by a designated minority group.\n\n\n\nThe HUB Office was created by Executive Order 150 April 20\, 1999. The HUB Office was codified\, established by law and provided operational funding during the 2001 Legislative Session.\n\n\n\nThe HUB Office was established to:\n\n	Increase the amount of goods and services acquired by state agencies from businesses owned and controlled by HUB firms\;\n	Work towards eliminating barriers that reduce the participation of HUB firms in the marketplace\, and in state government procurement and contracting\;\n	Encourage purchasing officers and capital project coordinators within the state agencies\, departments\, universities and community colleges to identify and utilize HUB vendors\, contractors and service providers\;\n	Educate HUB firms on "How To Do Business" with the State of North Carolina\; and\n	Provide resources for HUB firms.
